Marilyn is a native Arizonan. She has taught elementary school, Community College and Memoir writing groups. In July 2008 she taught Memoir at Utah State University, Logan, Utah as part of the Summer Citizens for Seniors program. Marilyn has been published in Arizona Highways Magazine, Chicken Soup for the Military Wife’s Soul, the Arizona Republic, and the Arizona Daily Star. Her work has won awards in the annual contest sponsored by The Society of Southwestern Authors. She is President of the Santa Cruz Valley Chapter of the Society.
Her first book. Mary George, Her Book is based on ten years of her grandmother’s life from 1885-1895 in Utah, Northern Arizona and New Mexico. While most of the story is taken from family histories—written and oral it is classified as historical fiction.
Marilyn and her Navy husband raised a family of three children, traveled the world while earning college degrees and are still happily married in Green Valley, Arizona.

Marilyn Pate sent Everyday Evil to me as an attachment several months ago. Life became tangled. Yesterday I finally entered Marilyn's world, hypnotized. Never have I read such a gripping life story, such cruelty and horror placed on a little girl who had no place to run. No place to hide. No one to talk to. Yet those of us who know Marilyn today enjoy the companionship and warmth of a beautiful friend who appears unscathed after a lifetime of fear. Everyday Evil reads "better than fiction" because the story is true. Step-by-step we learn a human being CAN live, never know love, control, destroy, be forgiven, but never forgotten.

A gripping true story which reads like a novel. It was hard to put down, and I read it within a day. An unforgettable memoir about survival in a dysfunctional family!
This book gets down to what the writer experienced in her childhood, alot of abuse begins when you are children but doesn't end there, and it's never forgotten.
Knew the author many years ago and found it a very heart wrenching story. Very sad, but worth the money and the time to read it. Author has a real gift for writing for sure.
